| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:29.6 | Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Wednesday, March 24th, 2021. We're still in the fifth week of Lent. |
| 0:38.2 | And today is also the feast of St. Oscar Romero. He was an archbishop, and we'll talk a little bit more about him. I'm Kyle Hyman from Spoke Street Media with you this week to talk about fatherhood. We've already talked |
| 0:44.1 | about why did God create our fathers and why do I have to listen to my father? Today, we're |
| 0:50.0 | going to take a look at a different type of father that plays an important role in our lives as |
| 0:55.8 | Catholics, and that is the clergy, our priests. And we can look at today's saint as an example |
| 1:02.6 | of what it means to be a holy father, a holy priest. Saint Oscar Romero was Archbishop of San Salvador. |
| 1:11.7 | San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador, which is in Central America. |
| 1:15.9 | So if you're going from the United States, you'd go through Mexico and then Guatemala, and then you could go into El Salvador. |
| 1:23.7 | It's right beside Honduras. |
| 1:25.6 | But he lived in a time where there was a lot of tension, a lot of war, a lot of corruption in the El Salvador government. |
| 1:33.9 | And unfortunately, the poor especially were being mistreated and Archbishop Oscar Romero would speak up for them. |
| 1:43.8 | In doing so, he was kind of risking his life |
| 1:46.3 | because it was so dangerous. But he would speak out not only at church, but also on the radio. |
| 1:54.2 | So, you know, this is before there were podcasts. Even though he was putting himself in danger, |
| 1:59.3 | he knew that he couldn't stay silent. He had to speak out. |
| 2:02.7 | And he was actually killed while saying mass. Some bad guys came into the church and killed him. |
| 2:10.7 | So he's a martyr. He died for the faith. He died not only speaking out against what was wrong, but in the very moment of celebrating the Eucharist. |
| 2:21.4 | So I mentioned on Monday that your parish priest is a spiritual father. |
| 2:27.2 | Spiritual fatherhood is something that we don't talk about a whole lot. |
| 2:30.5 | Because besides your actual father, your biological father, or you might have a foster father, or an adopted father, there's also spiritual fathers. |
| 2:41.7 | Now, we have our godfathers, for example, that fill that role as a spiritual father, but also, and very importantly, our priests. |
