| 0:38.0 | Hey there, Sprouts. Today is March 23, 2021. We're also in the fifth week of Lent. I'm Kyle Hyman from Spoke Street Media. I'll be here on the Catholic Sprouts podcast all week talking about fatherhood. |
| 0:44.8 | Yesterday we talked about why we have dads, and today we're going to take a look at, |
| 0:47.1 | why do I have to listen to my dad? |
| 0:51.7 | Well, for one, it's one of the Ten Commandments. |
| 0:53.7 | Honor your father and mother. |
| 0:56.6 | So we need to respect our dads. |
| 0:59.0 | God gave us our dads. |
| 1:03.6 | Also, it's your father's job to lead you closer to Jesus. |
| 1:09.6 | So that means doing more of the good things and less of the bad things. |
| 1:12.6 | You know, praying more, spending time as a family, |
| 1:18.2 | hopefully going to Mass every Sunday. All of these things will help us to grow closer to God. |
| 1:26.5 | But also, it's your father's job to protect you from harm or evil. So that's why our dads have rules for us, not because he wants you to be miserable, |
| 1:30.3 | but because he wants you to be safe and healthy and happy. |
| 1:34.3 | And so if he says you need to go to sleep, it's so you can get rest and have energy and stay healthy. |
| 1:41.3 | If he says, eat some vegetables, it's because if you only eat |
| 1:46.3 | ice cream, you won't feel very good, and you might have other problems down the road. |
| 1:52.1 | If he says, don't run into the street when a car is coming, or don't put your hand on the stove |
| 1:56.4 | when we're cooking, or to be careful on the internet because there's things that can harm you. |
| 2:01.8 | It's not to ruin your fun. It's not to make you miserable, but it's because your father loves you |
| 2:08.3 | and wants to protect you. And God gave you your father and put him in charge of your family because |
