| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:28.9 | Hey there, sprouts. Today is Tuesday, December 29th, 2020. Now this week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are talking about family. Yesterday, we talked about how the family is that |
| 0:34.6 | building block of society, but the real purpose of the family is to offer a safe |
| 0:40.6 | and loving environment, the environment of the little church, so that children might be able to |
| 0:46.6 | discern and accept the mission that God has for them. Now, as I told you yesterday, we were going to use lots of examples from |
| 0:56.7 | the Old Testament. A family is where sometimes under difficult circumstances, they were reminded |
| 1:04.9 | that they each belonged to God, that their obligation to God came first above all other things. |
| 1:14.4 | So these are some interesting stories and they're included in the Bible. |
| 1:19.4 | So we really do need to reflect on them and draw inspiration for our own families from them. |
| 1:25.7 | So the first story is a story of Abraham, his wife Sarah, and their son Isaac. |
| 1:31.6 | Now, if you're familiar with this story, here's a little bit of how it goes. |
| 1:36.0 | So, of course, Abraham was a pagan, but he had this desire to know God. |
| 1:43.2 | And slowly God revealed himself to him and even said that he would |
| 1:47.8 | use Abraham to be the father of a great nation, a great nation that would be his special people. |
| 1:55.0 | Now Abraham, he thought this sounded a little bit crazy. Why? Because he was an old man and he didn't have any kids, |
| 2:04.6 | not even one. I mean, they were really old. And so he thought, how can I be the father of a great |
| 2:10.5 | nation? But of course, with God, nothing is impossible. And so when Sarah was 99 years old, yes, the Bible tells us she was 99, |
| 2:22.1 | she gave birth to their first and only child, and they named him Isaac. Now, if you can imagine |
| 2:29.5 | waiting a hundred years to have a child, this was the child of the promise of God. It was the hope of their |
| 2:37.5 | future. It was the fulfillment of this promise that they would be the parents of this great nation |
| 2:44.5 | that would be a special people to God himself. But then something crazy happened. So Abraham continued to have a close relationship |
| 2:55.7 | with God and God asked him to take his beloved son Isaac and to travel a couple of days' journey |
