| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:23.6 | Hey there, Sprouts. |
| 0:27.1 | Today is Monday, November 9th, 2020. |
| 0:33.2 | This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are continuing our study of Jesus Christ by talking about a specific calling that he gave to people he knew at the time, people he met while he was preaching, |
| 0:41.6 | but something that he also gives to us today. |
| 0:45.1 | And this is the call to be a disciple. |
| 0:49.5 | Shortly after Jesus is baptized, we hear him calling to various people that they come and follow him. |
| 0:59.4 | There are two sets of brothers that we see him call in a couple of different gospels. |
| 1:06.6 | And those sets of brothers are Peter and his brother Andrew, and then also James and his brother John, |
| 1:15.4 | the sons of Zebedee. Now, both of these sets of brothers, they had a life. They had lots of things |
| 1:23.4 | they were doing and obligations that they had made. They were fishermen. We know that they are out |
| 1:29.9 | fishing, in fact, when Jesus calls them. And yet Jesus calls them to lay down their nets, to come |
| 1:37.7 | and follow him and catch men instead of fish, to go and evangelize. So Jesus calls them to be disciples. Now all week long, |
| 1:48.9 | we are going to look at what that means. When we too are called to be a disciple, what is Christ |
| 1:54.5 | calling us to actually do? And also, what are the requirements of being a disciple? We hear from Jesus that there's a lot |
| 2:05.1 | of serious things that we have to do to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Jesus even tells one person |
| 2:12.7 | that unless we hate our mother and father, we are not worthy of being his disciples. Others are told |
| 2:20.8 | to come now, to not finish the harvest, to not even bury their parents, but to come now. |
| 2:27.9 | So we'll talk about this. And luckily, we have some incredible saints celebrating feast days |
| 2:33.0 | this week because we know that the call |
| 2:35.4 | to discipleship is something that we see Jesus do in the Gospels, but it is something that is |
| 2:41.9 | still happening. |
