Hey there, sprouts.. Today is September 25th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about the world that Jesus lived in. We talked about the fact that he was a real person.

We've talked about the Roman Empire that controlled the area he lived in, his Jewish history.

What happened when the Jews were conquered?

And today we're going to talk about why this area was like a Tinderbox.

Now, have you ever heard that expression before?

A Tinder box.

A Tinder box is something that's very dry.

It's great for starting fires.

But if you don't want to start a fire

and you happen to be around sparks,

it can be very dangerous.

Just a single spark will set it on fire.

The Jewish world under Roman control was just this way. In fact, in the Gospels, we hear many times Roman officials complaining about Judea, about Jerusalem, that there was so many problems. And the reason why

there were so many problems is because the Jews were looking for their Messiah. They believed in

God's promises. However, they were looking for a specific type of person, and Jesus came on the scene and was

so different than what they expected.

So here's what happened.

Of course, all through the Old Testament, God promises a Messiah, and he even says that a shoot

from the stump of Jesse will spring up and this will be the Messiah.
