| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:23.5 | Hey there, sprouts. |
| 0:26.8 | Today is Wednesday, September 9th, 2020. |
| 0:32.7 | It is also the feast day of one of my favorite saints, St. Peter Claver. |
| 0:35.8 | Now, St. Peter Claver was born in Europe. |
| 0:42.8 | He was ordained to be a priest there, but he decided that he would spend his life in South America being a missionary. |
| 0:58.9 | So he traveled there. He ended up in Colombia. But once he arrived, he realized that he was in the biggest slave port in the world. Each day, slave ships would arrive from Africa, |
| 1:05.1 | where people had been kidnapped from their homes, chained and treated terribly, only to arrive in Colombia to a life of slavery. St. Peter Claver devoted his life to serving people that arrived on these slave ships. |
| 1:14.4 | He spent most of his time going through the community begging for food and clothing and medicine. |
| 1:20.5 | And then when the ships arrived, he demanded that he would be the first one on board. |
| 1:25.0 | He went and he lovingly cared for these people that were being treated so |
| 1:29.5 | terribly and were now being treated as property. He saw the evil of slavery and he did what he could |
| 1:36.8 | to end slavery, but ultimately he knew that he was called to love each of these persons |
| 1:43.5 | individually. Although oftentimes they spoke |
| 1:47.1 | different languages, he also worked hard to tell them about Jesus Christ, and he baptized hundreds and |
| 1:52.5 | hundreds of people. St. Peter Claver was a very holy man. He devoted himself to each person that he |
| 1:59.6 | met, and he brought truly the love of Jesus Christ |
| 2:03.8 | into some of the most darkest places. |
| 2:07.5 | So this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about Jesus Christ, and we're |
| 2:12.2 | answering the question that he puts to each of us, who do you say that I am? |
| 2:18.7 | Yesterday, we were reminded that Jesus Christ was a real person who lived at a real place |
| 2:24.4 | and a real time. |
