Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, June 4th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been doing our first ever Catholic Sprouts Bible study, and we are getting

it kicked off with a bang by looking at John chapter 6 and working

to understand more clearly the Catholic Church's teaching on the true presence of Jesus Christ,

body, soul, and divinity in the blessed sacrament of the altar, holy Eucharist.

We've already looked at how John chapter 6 begins with the miracle of the altar, Holy Eucharist. We've already looked at how John chapter 6 begins with the miracle of the multiplication

of loaves and how so many people from that day, the huge crowd, followed Jesus across the

water to the synagogue in Copernum.

There they started to talk about whether Jesus was the Messiah or not. They asked for a sign, like the sign that Moses gave by man coming from heaven. Jesus declares that he is the bread of life come down from heaven. Of course, this upset the Jews. Didn't they know Jesus' mom and dad? How could he be the Messiah?

How could he have come from heaven?

Of course, Jesus does not back down.

He does not worry about offending these people.

He goes further.

He says that he really is the bread of life and that we need to eat his flesh.

Of course, the Jews are really grossed out by this. And he goes even a step

further declaring that his body is true food and his blood, true drink. Now, before we go into the

last little part of John chapter six that we will be looking at today, we are going to do a little

review. Now, what does the Catholic Church believe about Eucharist? Because as you likely know,

the Catholic Church is the one true church founded by Jesus Christ, but it is not the only Christian church. In fact, there are literally

thousands of different Christian denominations, and each of those has a slightly different belief

system. Oftentimes, there is big disagreement on Eucharist. Catholics alone believe in something called transubstantiation. Transubstantiation. Say it.
