| 0:06.6 | The daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:55.5 | Hey there, Spouts. Today is Monday, June 1st, 2020. This week on the Catholic Spouts, we are going to be doing something a little bit different. We are going to be having a bit of a Bible study. But before we get to that, I want to talk about what the church celebrated yesterday. So yesterday was the feast of Pentecost. So I hope you wore red. Because Pentecost celebrates the time when the Holy Spirit came down and descended upon the apostles and Mary. |
| 1:00.6 | Now, if you remember, what happened is that Jesus, of course, rose from the dead. |
| 1:06.6 | And then he stayed with the apostles for several weeks, teaching them, encouraging them. |
| 1:09.3 | But then he ascended back up into heaven. |
| 1:15.0 | After he ascended, there was a time where the apostles were once again terrified, |
| 1:17.5 | and they were hiding behind locked doors. |
| 1:20.3 | Because remember, if the Jews had killed Jesus, |
| 1:24.6 | don't you think that they probably would kill any of Jesus' followers? |
| 1:30.6 | They were hiding because they had not yet received the gift of the Holy Spirit that would give them the wisdom and fortitude and courage to go and spread the good news of Jesus Christ. |
| 1:36.9 | And so on Pentecost, when they were all gathered behind a locked door, suddenly there was a loud |
| 1:42.8 | sound of a wind. |
| 1:46.8 | Fire descended like tongues and landed on the heads of each of those present. And suddenly they began to preach the good news of Jesus Christ |
| 1:54.3 | without fear. Even more remarkably, many of the apostles there began to speak in languages |
| 2:00.3 | that they had never even |
| 2:01.5 | heard before. Now, can you imagine, suddenly being able to fluently speak a language that you had |
| 2:08.4 | never heard before? That's incredible. And after this, they went out to spread the good news of |
| 2:14.9 | Jesus Christ to almost every corner of the world. And they did it without |
| 2:20.1 | fear, even though most of the people there that day ended up dying a martyr's death, meaning |
| 2:27.1 | they were put to death because they refused to stop preaching the good news of Jesus Christ. |
| 2:32.5 | So that is what happened on the feast of Pentecost. |
