| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:29.3 | Hey there, sprouts. Today is Friday, April 24th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been wrestling with one of the biggest questions we will ever face as Christians. |
| 0:35.1 | Why does God, the God that loves us, let evil things happen? And this is an important |
| 0:41.2 | thing to wonder and answer as we live through this pandemic. We've already seen that it is not |
| 0:48.1 | God's plan. When people die, when people are lost to the pandemic, yes, God allows it, but it is not his plan. With each |
| 0:56.2 | act of creation, God gave up control, most specifically when he created human beings and gave |
| 1:01.7 | us free will. God also created rules that govern creation. And it is his will that he allows |
| 1:09.3 | these rules to govern the earth as it unfolds according to these natural processes, |
| 1:15.6 | even if those natural processes result in us getting a beasting or an earthquake or a virus mutating and affecting thousands. |
| 1:25.5 | We've also talked about the reason why God allows these things to happen. |
| 1:30.3 | And those are two reasons, because he respects our free will and because God can use all things for his glory, |
| 1:38.3 | even the most evil thing that ever happened, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and through that we have the resurrection |
| 1:46.5 | and eternal life with God in heaven. Now today we are going to wrap up the week with something |
| 1:55.1 | I want you to ponder. Now friends, it is easy to say that the pandemic is all bad, that schools closing, |
| 2:06.8 | church is closing, that all of these things are bad, bad. And of course, the loss of life that |
| 2:12.9 | has occurred with the pandemic is such a sadness and an evil. But oftentimes we don't see that these big |
| 2:22.9 | moments in our life carry a big heaping of blessing with them as well. And to understand this, |
| 2:31.2 | we are going to hear a very old Chinese proverb. |
| 2:36.1 | So here it is. |
| 2:37.4 | There once was a Chinese farmer who had a horse. |
| 2:40.5 | And one day, this horse decided to run away. |
| 2:43.7 | Now, the Chinese farmer's neighbors came over and noticed his horse was gone, and they lamented. |
