Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, March 24th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about the sin of greed. Yesterday, we started things off by hearing about a

story of a rich man who owned a business,

and I have a very happy janitor who worked for him.

Now, the complexities of this story help us understand the complexities of money.

Now, as people that live in the world, as your parents, or if you grow up to be a mother and a father yourself,

you will be required to have money and to own things. And money can be a very good thing.

Money, of course, is what we use to buy houses and cars and food and clothing. And all of these

things are needed. Even when we get sick, we oftentimes need money to buy medicine. These are all

important. Also, in the future, you will probably have a job. And if we worked really

hard at that job, you will get paid and even paid a little bit more for doing a good job.

That is a good thing. All of these things are good. Sometimes we can think about the sin of greed

as if all money and possessions are bad, but that's not true.

Greed, the definition of this sin, is when we love things of this world, like money or possessions, when we love them too much.

When we love them so much that they begin to take over our thoughts.

Now think about that rich business owner at the beginning of the story.

Yes, he had done a lot of good things and he owned a lot of things, but he didn't just own

them.

In a way, they owned him. He spent all of his time worrying about the

things that he owned or even worrying that he wasn't going to keep making enough money. All of this

worry took away from the time that he could spend loving other people or loving God.

Money and possessions got in the way of his happiness.
