You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hey there, sprouts. Today is Monday, March 16th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are going to be celebrating the third week of Lent by talking about the sin of pride.

0:36.4

Now, pride, we should know, is the sin that leads to all other

0:41.8

sins. And here's why. When we commit the sin of pride, we are telling other people that we don't need

0:50.6

them, that we can do it on our own. We're perfectly fine, taking care of ourselves.

0:54.4

Thank you very much. But even more importantly, the sin of bride tells God that we don't need

1:02.7

him, that we're strong enough, smart enough to take care of ourselves and we don't need him. Now, this is something, whether you think that

1:14.1

that clearly or not, this is something that we do all the time. When we fail to turn to God,

1:33.6

the sin of pride. Now, to understand this today, we are going to look at two sort of short stories.

1:40.7

One is a fable. It has to do with animals, and the other is actually a story from the Bible.

1:46.7

So the first story is about the lion and the mouse. So a long time ago in the jungle in Africa,

1:53.6

a lion was sitting in the sun just sort of yawning and relaxing. He was sitting there and all

1:59.1

of a sudden a mouse ran right between his big, strong

2:03.8

pause. Well, with no effort at all, the lion reached down, grabbed the mouse and was about to

2:10.0

eat this delicious little snack when suddenly the mouse screamed and said, no, no, please don't

2:16.1

eat me. And if you don't eat me, then in the future,

2:20.4

perhaps I will be able to help you. Now, the lion, this huge king of the jungle, looked at the

2:29.6

mouse and laughed. How could a tiny, insignificant mouse ever help him? But the lion was so amused by this

2:39.0

silly little mouse that he let him go anyway. Well, time passed and the lion was walking through the
