You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:39.1

Hey there, Sparrow, is Christmas Eve. It is Tuesday, December 24th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are wrapping up our advent journey by looking at the last and the final prophet St. John the Baptist.

0:46.2

Remember, he calls us to repent so that we are better able to welcome who comes after him,

0:52.1

and that is the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who we have been waiting for all along.

0:56.7

Now, today we are going to talk briefly about how Jesus Christ is the fulfillment. He is the answer. He is what God promised us all the way back in the Garden of

1:05.6

Eden. Now, there is so much to say on this, but we're going to talk about just two things. We're going to

1:12.1

talk about Jesus and Mary, about how Mary is the new Eve, and Jesus is the new Adam. Now,

1:20.6

I remember back in the garden, Adam and Eve were there, and God gave them only one rule. While they

1:26.0

were in this paradise, they could do whatever they wanted, and they were perfectly

1:30.2

happy and united with God.

1:32.7

But they had one restriction.

1:35.5

Please, God said, do not eat from this particular tree.

1:40.5

Eat whatever else you want.

1:41.8

There's plenty here, but not this tree.

1:45.2

Now, probably this demand left a question in Adam and Eve's heart. Why this tree? What's God withholding from us?

1:54.3

And when the serpent or the devil entered the garden, he knew exactly what to say to Eve and then to Adam, to get them to break their

2:02.6

promise to God, to disobey, and to commit the first sin. Now, God had told them that if they

2:11.0

disobeyed him, they would be breaking their relationship with him. And after they sinned, their eyes were opened. Everything was

2:20.9

changed. And God could no longer protect them in this garden. They were sent out. But God didn't

2:28.2

abandon them. And that's what we've been talking about all along through the Jesse tree. God

2:33.1

didn't abandon us. He just had to work on our

2:36.5

hearts so that we might be able, be ready to accept him when he came again as the Messiah.
