Hey there, Sprouts. Today is My, December 23rd, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, well, we're preparing for Christmas because today is Christmas Eve's Eve,

0:40.2

meaning that tomorrow is Christmas Eve.

0:45.9

All Advent, we have been talking about the prophets who had plenty to say to the people of their own time about repenting and accepting God's forgiveness and changing their ways.

0:51.8

But they also told us quite a bit about the coming Messiah. And we know that

0:57.1

that Messiah turned out to be a little baby, a little baby boy born in Bethlehem in a stable.

1:56.0

And he preached a gospel of repentance and he baptized people as a symbol that they were forgiven

2:03.3

their sins and that they should start again. Now, St. John the Baptist is not just an isolated

2:08.4

character. The people at the time identified him as a specific prophet, or at least very

2:14.7

similar to a specific prophet that had already come to the nation of Israel.

2:19.3

They identified him as the new Elijah.

2:22.8

Because if you remember from the week we spent talking about the prophet Elijah,

2:27.3

he came demanding that people turn from their sinful ways that they repent and that they start again. And that is the same

2:36.9

message that St. John the Baptist had. Now, one of the most important things that St. John the
