Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Tuesday, December 10th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are talking about the prophet Elijah. Elijah was one of the most important

prophets of the Old Testament. and as we talked about yesterday,

we read about him in the book of kings.

Now, Israelite had asked for a king for a long time.

God said no, but finally he said yes to his people and gave them King David.

King David was a good king, but he was followed by many terrible kings.

And during the time of Elijah, there was a terrible king who required that the entire nation

worship a false God named Baal. Elijah cried out to God and said, God, why are you letting this

happen? This king is killing our people

and forcing us to worship other gods. So God heard Elijah's request. But as often happens when we

ask God for something, God puts us to work. So he put the prophet Elijah to work. God sent the prophet Elijah to this king,

and he went and he spoke God's justice. Now here is something to know about the prophet Elijah.

He was brave and he was blunt. Now, do you know what it means to be blunt?

To be blunt means that you tell the truth plainly and directly and you don't worry about hurting

someone's feelings. The prophet Elijah did not worry about this. He was quite angry with what

this king was doing and the king was doing evil things. Now, the prophet Elijah walked in there and

he told the king that he was sinning against God and that God would punish him. He told him also that his

wife would die. He told the king that as punishment

for what this king was doing to the nation of Israel, there would be three years of drought.

Three years when it wouldn't rain, when there would be no crop, when the animals would die,

when people would be thirsty, three years.
