Hey there, sprouts. Today isouts. Today is Thursday, December 5th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are diving into Advent, the season of waiting by talking about the

prophets of the Jesse tree. Yesterday, we talked about how a prophet is not someone that can magically see into the future,

and said they are someone with a close relationship with God whom God has chosen to give special knowledge.

The two main messages of all of the prophets from the Old Testament are, number one, you have sinned and you will be

punished. And number two, repent now turn to God and he will be merciful. Now, besides this,

the prophets also spoke about one major thing, and that was the coming of the Messiah. They talked about how way back in the

Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had sinned. They had deliberately disobeyed God, eaten from the tree of

knowledge, tempted by the snake. And because of that, they had been punished. They had been cast doubt to a life of hard work,

and many of their descendants had wandered away from God. They had worshipped idols. They had

killed each other. They had sinned against God whom loved him. The message was always, however,

that God has not forgotten you. He has not

abandoned you, and he is preparing a Messiah to bring you back into relationship with him.

So at various places in the Old Testament, the prophets are talking about Jesus. And many of the things

that they said came true when Jesus was on earth and when Jesus died on the cross. We're not going

to talk about all of these things, but the prophet Isaiah spoke a lot about the type of suffering

that Jesus would endure during his passion. And even the prophet Isaiah spoke a lot about the type of suffering that Jesus would endure during his

passion. And even the prophet Micah was able to tell us that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem,

which he was. So all of these things are clues, but they're not really like magical future

kind of clues. They're more so things that God

gave us to prepare our hearts to receive the Messiah. And as we move through the prophets,
