Hey there, sprouts. Today is Tuesday, November 12th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Sprauds podcast, we are talking about Council, the fifth gift of the Holy Spirit. Yesterday, we talked about

how counsel is a gift that guides all of the other gifts of the Holy Spirit. Yesterday we talked about how counsel is a gift that guides all of the other

gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we know better exactly how to live out our vocational call

as Christians. We talked about how this council can come directly from God when he answers

our questions and dilemmas, or it can come through other people. God can even act

through us so that we can deliver these wise words and guidance to those around us. Now today,

we are going to talk about one sacrament that often plays a incredibly key role in receiving counsel from God.

And that sacrament is a sacrament of confession or reconciliation.

Now, if you have already received the sacrament of confession or reconciliation, you

understand what happens in the sacrament.

You spend time prayerfully considering where you have

sinned or not lived up to what God is calling you to do, and then you go before a priest and you

confess those sins. You confess as many as you can remember with as much detail as you can remember.

After this, we recite the active contrition,

and you can sometimes speak with the priest about things that are bothering you,

or he can advise you on ways to avoid sin.

After that, then the priest, through the power of God,

absolves you from your sin, and oftentimes gives you an assignment,

something to do for penance, maybe a list of prayers or an act of service, to really help to change

your heart so that we don't keep committing these sins. We know that we will always be sinners,

but we leave confession really hopeful knowing that we have been washed clean,
