Hey there, Spouts. Today is Wednesday, September 25th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts

podcast, we are preparing for October the month of the rosary by learning what it means to be a

warrior of the rosary. We have already talked about how the rosary

is our most powerful weapon and a very real weapon at that.

And we also learned how the rosary is our way to honor Mary,

that roses actually form every time we say these prayers

and are taken to be part of the crown of Mary.

Today we're going to talk about how the rosary has offered incredible protection for those that have used it in the past.

And we have two incredible examples to look at.

The first example happened a long time ago.

It happened in the 1500s.

Now, this is a pretty big story, and it happened at what is now known as the Battle of Lapanto.

What happened is that the Ottoman Empire, which was a mostly Muslim empire.

Well, during the Crusades, Christians had gone into the Holy Land and they had defeated the Muslims.

They had pushed them back from what we call our holy places where Jesus had lived.

Hundreds of years past, the Muslims are much stronger,

they have a stronger empire, and they are still quite angry about what happened during the Crusades.

So the Ottoman Empire decides to attack the Christian world. They amass a huge army, huge battleships,

and they decide to attack Venice, Italy.

Now, the Christians were not prepared for this. They had over 12,000 fewer soldiers to fight than the Ottoman Empire did. The Pope was terrified, and in a very real way, everyone knew that if the Muslims,

if the Ottoman Empire won this battle, nothing would stop them from taking over the entire
