Summary

This week on Catholic Sprouts we will go over the parts of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Each day we will look at a few parts of the Mass, what is happening in each part, and what we are supposed to be doing during that part. I will also share some fun and free resources you can use for your family or class to prepare for each Sunday Mass or to review it. A small challenge is included each day based on reading the upcoming Sunday Mass Readings.

+ MONDAY: Let’s look at the two main parts of the Mass and discuss the Introductory Rites, the beginning of Mass.

+ TUESDAY: Today we focus on the First and Second Readings and the Responsorial Psalm. Where do they come from and why are they important?

+ WEDNESDAY: We now look at the Gospel and Homily and the importance of scripture in the Mass. We finish discussing the Liturgy of the Word.

+ THURSDAY: We begin learning about the first part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, with the Offertory Procession and the Eucharistic Prayer.

+ FRIDAY: We conclude our week with the last part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, receiving Communion and the concluding prayers as we leave Mass.

0:30.8	Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, May 6th, 2025. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are discussing the Mass. Today, we are going to be talking about the Liturgy of the Word, specifically the readings
0:40.4	that we hear when Mass begins with the Liturgy of the Word. I'm Deanna Bartolini, and I have

0:55.4	Yesterday, we talked about the beginning of the Mass, the introductory parts of the Mass,
1:01.0	and we left off with the Collect.
1:03.4	And we said that the Collect is the prayer that the priest prays to gather up all of our prayers
1:08.6	and to help us become ready to hear readings from Scripture.
1:14.8	Readings from Scripture. What's that? Well, that is God's Word. That is the Bible.
1:21.2	And every week on Sundays when we go to Mass, we hear three different scripture readings.
1:30.3	There's the first reading, the second reading, and then there's a gospel.
1:36.3	And I'm going to talk about each of those individually.
1:40.3	So the first reading is usually from the Old Testament.
1:48.2	Right now, though, it's the Easter season, and so our first readings are taken from the Acts
1:54.5	of the Apostles.
1:57.1	After we have our first reading on Sunday, we have the Responsorial Psalm. The Responsorial Psalm,
2:04.9	that's a pretty big word, isn't it? It is a Psalm, which comes from the Old Testament,
2:10.4	and the reason why it says Responsorial is that, can you hear the word response in there? We are going to give a response to the words
2:22.1	that the person who's singing or the lector reads. So it's our turn to participate in the liturgy of the
2:30.6	word. And then we have the second reading. The second reading is usually,
2:36.0	well, from one of the New Testament letters. And St. Paul has written a lot of the New Testament letters,
