This week we have been talking about relics as we work our way through the ABCs of the Catholic

We have been learning that a relic is a physical reminder of a saint or the life of Jesus,

and we've talked about some of the most well-known, well-venerated relics in the church,

including the true cross, the crown of thorns, and the shroud of Turin.

Today we're going to turn to saintly relics and talk about incredible relics, including

the incorruptible bodies of saints.

But before we dive into that, please join me in the Jesus Prayer.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner. Amen. So yes, some of the most fantastic, remarkable, miraculous relics are entirely preserved

bodies of saints. Now, as you likely know, once a person is no longer living, their body begins to decay.

We bury human bodies. And if you were to happen upon a body that died a number of years ago, it would no longer look like a body.

It would be decayed and eventually over time the body would turn to dust, right? From dust you

were created to dust you shall return. However, to show us that certain lives were just filled with God's divine grace,

that they are with Him in heaven, God sometimes allows the miracle to occur where a body

that should be decaying and returning to dust isn't.

Instead, the body is perfectly preserved.

We call the body of a saint that has been preserved from natural decomposition.
