| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:19.3 | Hey there, Sprouts. |
| 0:21.2 | Today is Monday, April 15th, 2019. |
| 0:25.3 | And as you might know, it is Holy Monday because we are in the last week of Lent, Holy Week. |
| 0:33.2 | We're going to spend this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast talking about Holy Week and all of the beautiful things and signs and symbols that you will see as you celebrate the liturgy this week. |
| 0:47.0 | So today, we are actually going to talk about what happened yesterday. |
| 0:51.9 | Yesterday at Mass, we celebrated Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday. Now, there's a couple |
| 0:59.9 | things that you probably noticed yesterday at Mass. The first one is poems. No matter where you celebrated |
| 1:09.3 | Mass, you probably received a blessed poem at the beginning of the service. |
| 1:16.2 | The other thing you probably noticed is that the gospel reading was really, really long. |
| 1:24.2 | Palm Sunday is the first of a couple of liturgies this week where we will read the entire passion account from the gospel. |
| 1:35.3 | Now, by the passion, I mean it is the entire story of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. We read through all of the questioning that he goes |
| 1:49.7 | through before the high priest, before Pilate, and then ultimately his suffering as he carries |
| 1:56.8 | the cross and is crucified. So we read that entire account yesterday. And that is why it can be |
| 2:04.7 | called Passion Sunday, because we read the entire passion. Now, what we are going to talk about |
| 2:12.3 | today, we are going to talk about why we have poems on Palm Sunday. So as you probably guessed, |
| 2:22.6 | we have poems on Palm Sunday because we not only read the gospel account to the passion |
| 2:29.1 | at this service, but we also read a little bit from the gospel at the very beginning. |
| 2:37.0 | Now, it depends. You can do a different in different parishes, but traditionally what |
| 2:41.9 | happens on Palm Sunday is you begin the mass somewhere other than in the church. |
| 2:47.0 | You begin the mass possibly outside, maybe in the vestibule, maybe in a side chapel, but usually you begin the mass somewhere else. |
| 2:59.4 | And you receive your palms there. |
