Hey there, sproutsouts. Today is Thursday, February 13th, 20205. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about the ABCs of the Catholic faith. We are on the letter P for

pilgrimage. We have already discussed that a

pilgrimage is a sacred journey that allows us to experience the realities of our faith, to grow in

our faith, to encounter suffering, and ultimately to deepen our faith. We have already made a heartfelt spiritual pilgrimage to Fatima, lords, and Rome.

Today we are going to stay in our hemisphere and visit Mexico City.

But before we do that, please join me in the Jesus prayer. In the name of the Father

and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me

a sinner. Amen.

Now before we journey to Mexico City, let's pause for a minute and talk about our February prayer, the Jesus Prayer.

As you've noticed, this is a very short prayer.

And perhaps it reminds you of a story from the gospel. There's a parable that Jesus tells about a tax collector and a Pharisee. They come to

the temple to pray. The Pharisee prays in a very proud way, feeling that he is the best and so much better than this terrible

tax collector. The tax collector lowers his head, pounds his chest, and says simply,

have mercy on me a sinner. Now, this prayer is a reminder that we are sinners, but also that we have a savior, that we have a

savor who loves us, who will have mercy on us. This is a particularly powerful prayer to pray

because it calls on the very name of Jesus that we know is alive and active. And so many people pray this very short prayer many times over again. They use a

string of beads similar to a rosary to pray this prayer over and over again. And as they pray,

your heart will begin to feel and say these words with more devotion, with more truth.
