Hi there, Catholic sprouts. I'm, Catholic Sprouts. I'm Linda Roselle, the Tin Can Pilgrim. Today is Monday, February 3, 2025. Today also is the feast day of St. Blaze. That's B-L-A-I-E, not Blaze B-L-A-Z-E like fire.

But if you have a fiery throat, St. Blaz is the saint for you. He is the patron saint of sore throats.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are discussing tabernacle art. Today, we are going to talk about

what the tabernacle is and why we go there to visit Jesus. I'll give you some tips for how to

pray by looking at art that you may find on or near the tabernacle. Since we're introducing the

tabernacle today, we'll only get to one or two types of

pictures you might find there. We'll do more in the next few days. Before we get started, I'd like to

give a shout out to some sprouts that I met at a little church in the Virginia countryside

last year. A big hello to Savannah, Parker, Noah, Faith, Helena, and Benedict. Six

Sprouts from Virginia. When you go to church sprouts, have you ever noticed the tabernacle? It is usually

on the back of the wall behind the altar. Sometimes it is in a separate little chapel or room

or to the side of the altar.

Almost always, it is shaped like a box,

but it can be other shapes.

It may be made of metal or wood

and usually is decorated with art and even sculpture.

Try to find it next time you go to church or ask your grown-up to

point it out to you. What is in the tabernacle? It must be something pretty important and

precious to be in this special container. Actually, what's inside isn't a thing. There's a person in there. It is Jesus in his real presence in the bread that was transformed into him during Mass.
