You're listening to Catholic Sprouse, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:14.6

Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Thursday, April 11, 2019. And, and today is Thursday, April 11th, 2019, and we are still in the fifth week of Lent.

0:28.6

This week on the Catholic Sprauds podcast, we are looking to our example and teacher, Jesus Christ,

0:36.5

specifically on what he can teach us about prayer. So far this week,

0:41.1

we have already talked about how prayer is simple. It's simply coming into the presence of God,

0:48.2

which we can do in many different ways. From Jesus, we've learned that we need to pray first, not last. We've learned that it can be

0:57.8

beautiful to memorize prayers, especially the Our Father, which he gave to us himself. And yesterday we

1:06.0

looked at the important of knowing and memorizing scripture. This is something that we see Jesus do over and over

1:14.1

again as he prays and as he talks about the faith. And it is something that we should do too. We should not

1:20.9

only read scripture, but memorize scripture. Today we are going to talk about the emotion of prayer. We are going to look

1:31.8

to one specific story from the gospel, something that we will be thinking a lot about next week,

1:38.6

since next week is Holy Week, and that event is the agony in the garden. Like I've said, we see Jesus pray many times

1:48.4

throughout the gospel. Sometimes we just hear that he is going to a deserted place to pray. The beautiful

1:55.1

thing about the agony in the garden is that we get to hear the actual words that Jesus is saying as he prays.

2:03.8

Now, in case you don't know this story, here is a little bit about the agony in the garden.

2:09.8

Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples, and while there, he instituted the Eucharist.

2:17.4

This all happened at the last supper.

2:20.5

After the meal, Jesus took a couple of his close disciples and went to the Garden of Gassimony.

2:26.1

It was late at night, and he knew that he would soon be betrayed and handed over to be crucified.

2:33.0

Clearly, he felt everything that we would feel. He felt dread and fear.

2:40.4

So he went into the garden that night to pray. He says lots of things, but he says this, and this is from

2:46.3

the Gospel of Matthew in the 26th chapter. Jesus says, my father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it,
