royalty. Today we are going to talk about St. Adelaide of Italy. So settle in and let's dive

into her amazing story. Imagine being a princess at just 16 years old.

That was St. Adelaide of Italy's life.

She was born around the year 931 in what we now call Switzerland.

As a young girl, she married King Lothair of Italy.

For a short time, Adelaide was a happy queen, but her happiness

was short-lived. After just three years of marriage, her husband was poisoned by a rival.

The rival didn't stop there, though. He wanted Adelaide to marry his son, so he could hold on

to power. But Adelaide was brave and refused. Can you guess what happened next?

The rival locked her away in a castle near lake. Even in prison, Adelaide's courage and faith didn't waver.

A kind priest helped her to escape through a secret tunnel. She hid in the forest where he brought her food to survive.

Eventually, Adelaide found protection with a local duke and sent a message for help to King Otto of
