| 0:50.4 | of St. Margaret of Castello. Margaret was born in the 1300s in Italy. Her parents had been hoping for a son, but instead |
| 0:58.8 | they were blessed with a daughter who was blind and had dwarfism and severe scoliosis. |
| 1:04.0 | That means that she was short and her deformed spine caused her to be hunched forward. |
| 1:10.0 | Her disabilities also made it difficult for her to walk. |
| 1:13.8 | Her parents were so embarrassed by her disabilities, they kept her hidden in a room of their castle. |
| 1:19.8 | When she was accidentally discovered by a guest, her parents moved her to a small room built |
| 1:25.1 | on the side of the local church, and they bricked up the door |
| 1:28.3 | trapping her inside. Food was passed to her through a small door, and another small window |
| 1:34.7 | allowed her to hear Mass and receive communion. The priest of the parish was kind to Margaret, |
| 1:41.5 | and educated her. When Margaret was a teenager, her parents took her to a |
| 1:46.6 | shrine where many miracles had happened in the hopes of healing her disabilities. When she was not |
| 1:52.4 | healed, they abandoned her in the town never to see her again. She spent a while begging on the |
| 1:59.0 | streets before a local Dominican monastery took her in, and she became a third-order Dominican, which is a sort of religious order open to lay people. Despite being mistreated and abandoned by her parents, Margaret never became angry or bitter. She lived out her days with joy and the people of the town came to love her. |
