 It's week four of our journey through the ABC's of the Catholic Faith. That means that we are on the letter D and D is for... DEVOTION! Join us as we explore various types of devotion. Hopefully you hear something that you want to dig into further and adopt as your own!

+ MONDAY: "A devotion is an expression of love and fidelity that arises from the intersection of faith, culture, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

+ TUESDAY: Eucharistic Devotions (adoration and processions)

+ WEDNESDAY: Marian Devotions (rosary, scapular and Mary gardens)

+ THURSDAY: Prayer Devotions (Novenas, Litanies and the Angelus)

+ FRIDAY: Pilgrimages

Today is Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

Today is also the feast day of St. Augustine.

We celebrated his mom yesterday, and today we celebrate him.

St. Augustine is one of the most important saints in all

of Catholic history. He lived shortly after it was finally legal to be Christian in the Roman Empire.

He was born in North Africa, lived in various places in Europe where he really rejected Christianity

until he met another man that would become a saint.

And that man we know as St. Ambrose.

St. Ambrose was brilliant and patient.

He was able to explain things to St. Augustine and also help him wrestle with all of his

objections. He was present when St. Augustine was baptized. Shortly after he was baptized, he studied for

the priesthood and was ordained. A while after that, he became a bishop and was a very good bishop.

What's interesting about St. Augustine is that it took him a long time to convert to Christianity,

but when he did convert, he converted fully.

He gave up all of his sinful practices, and he took on many penances, just completely devoting his life to God.

He also completely devoted all of the talents that God had given him.

St. Augustine was brilliant.

Before his conversion, he had worked as a scholar, a teacher.
