Today is the feast of St. Bartholomew, one of the original disciples and an early Christian martyr.

Most scholars believe he is the same man as Nathaniel mentioned in the Gospels,

and while not much is known about his life after the resurrection,

tradition says he was a missionary in India and Armenia and was brutally martyred by being flayed alive by the local king.

Ouch. That sounds extremely painful, but it is a testament to the courage of those original

disciples. They knew the truth that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead, and nothing could get

them to recant that truth, even being tortured to death. St. Bartholomew, pray for us. Now I'd like to turn our

attention to a well-known phrase that we have never discussed on this podcast before. Virtu staten media.

That is a Latin phrase first derived from Aristotle, which means virtue stands in the middle.

One of my guildmasters is fond of this phrase,

and it will be our next topic of discussion. So what does it mean? Well, first, let me tell you what

it does not mean. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't be too holy, as if being too holy isn't

virtuous. It doesn't mean that you should just be average and say things like, well, I'm not going to be

holy like Mother Teresa. She was too excreem. But I'm not going to be too dragony like Hitler either. I'll
