Hey there, Spouts, today is Tuesday, August 20th,

2012. Today is also the feast day of St. Bernard of Clairvaux. St. Bernard was a French monk who lived in the 1100s, a very, very important man during his time. Not only did he help

reform religious orders, he also was the formator of many other holy men who went on to hold

leadership roles in our church. For example, some of the men that he helped form

went on to become Pope. He also was alive during the time in the first crusades were fought.

And so St. Bernard of Claervaux was an very, very gifted preacher. And through his preaching,

many people, including kings, decided to go off to the

holy land and reclaim those holy sites that had been conquered and were in the control of the

Muslim army.

Now, this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are continuing with our ABCs of the Catholic faith. We are on C, which stands for

the cross. Today, we are going to examine how the cross, the fact that God chose to redeem us

through the cross, demonstrates his love. But before we do that, please join me in our August prayer, the memorare.

but in your mercy hear and answer me amen so as we talked about yesterday God is. He could have done absolutely anything to save us from the debt

that sin has created. He also could have chosen to do nothing, to just let us deal with the

consequences of our sins. Now, we aren't going to pretend that we understand God.
