Hey there, Spouse. Today is Thursday, May 23, 2024. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been talking about Marian titles like we are doing the whole month,

but specifically titles that have to do with art.

Because remember, for the majority of the time that our church has existed, most people did not

know how to read and write. So it was through art, sculptures, painting, stained glass,

that people learned the faith. So Mary has some pretty powerful and important titles that just help us understand why she is depicted in

certain ways and what we should understand about her through this depiction. Today we are going to

talk about one of the most important famous titles,

but before we get there, please join me in our May prayer, the pardon prayer from Fatima.

do not hope, and do not love you, amen. So the title from art that we are talking about today is

the pieta now this is an italian word that means pity now when you see an image of the pieta or the

most famous sculpture made by Michelangelo himself with this

title what you will see is Mary she is holding in her arms Jesus who has just been taken down

from the cross and laid in her arms.

Now, the rest of this week before today, we have been talking about Mary holding Jesus as a baby.

Sometimes he's sitting on her lap, sometimes she's pointing to him.

But in this image, Jesus is a grown man.
