Summary

his week we are continuing our 40 days with the Martyr's Lenten Series! Join us in saying this prayer each day:

ST PETER'S CHAINS PRAYER:

O God, Who caused St. Peter, the apostle, to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt,

loose, we beg You, the chains of our sins,

and graciously keep all evils far from us.

Bless us this Lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.

We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

0:40.4	Before we hear her story, however, join me in our Lenten prayer, St. Peter's Chains.

1:16.6	We've heard some incredible stories this week. Stories from Mexico, Rome, France, the Philippines.
1:25.8	Today we're going back to Rome to hear the story of St. Lucy, a virgin martyr.
1:32.1	Now, her story is unique and beautiful, but she is only one of many virgin martyrs.
1:40.0	Women, who, through their conversion to Christianity, gave everything to Jesus, made a pledge and promise to him that only Jesus would have them entirely.
1:54.3	Their mind, their soul, but also their body, that they belonged only to Jesus.
2:03.9	Now, at this time, there weren't organized religious communities for women, like maybe you know some nuns, some Nashville, Dominicans, Little Sisters
2:10.4	of the Lamb, whatever it might be. But these are sort of the first nuns. And because they
2:16.2	live during this time of persecution, this was unheard of,
2:21.0	that a woman would make a choice that she would only belong to Jesus Christ, that she was set
2:26.0	apart for him. And because of this, many of those who wanted to marry them or profit from
2:32.9	their marriage became enraged and ended their lives.
2:37.0	So that's what happened to St. Lucy.
