Hey there, Sprouds. Today is Wednesday, February 27th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts

0:27.1

podcast, we are preparing for Lent by learning more about Lent. First, we talked about the basics of

0:34.3

Lent, and I told you to go download a worksheet and start figuring out your

0:38.1

resolutions. Yesterday we talked about the unique things that you can see during Lent in your parish

0:44.9

as you celebrate Mass, including the colors, the ashes, and the stations of the cross.

0:50.7

Today, we are going to talk about how you will hear different things during Lent.

0:57.3

So first of all, and probably most noticeable, is that during the season of Lent, we stop saying

1:06.3

alleluia.

1:08.3

You won't say that in the mass, and if you can help it, it's a powerful practice to

1:14.4

stop saying that altogether. Now, why do we stop saying Alleluia? Well, the word alleluia is a word of praise,

1:24.3

and it usually refers to the most amazing thing that happened in the history of ever.

1:31.1

And that is that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. He died on the cross, conquered death,

1:37.9

and rose from the dead. That is something when we hear that, when we remember that,

1:43.8

we can help but sing forth.

1:46.1

Alleluia, I believe. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. During the season of Lent, however,

1:53.1

we go back and we journey with Christ. We place ourselves with Him during the passion. And to stay there, we stop saying the word

2:06.5

alleluia. So when we get to Easter, we can sing that forth again with even more excitement and

2:15.5

wonder because we once again are experiencing the resurrection for what feels

2:20.9

like the first time. So you won't be saying Alleluia during Mass, even before the gospel,

2:27.6

which is where we usually say it or sing it. You'll be singing something a little different,

2:32.9

probably something like praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.
