My name is Sir Roland Paterlot, and you're listening to Saturdays with Sir Roland

on Catholic Sprouts, where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

Today is the feast of St. Angela Marici, who lived

in the 15th century in Italy. She became an orphan at the young age of 10 when both of her parents

died, and then her only sister died, so she lost her whole family very early in life. She dedicated

her life to serving God after that. She realized there were many young girls in her area without

hope or education. She was distressed by their ignorance of the faith and upset at the parents

who were not teaching their children about God. So she took matters into her own hands and began to

educate these young girls in schools that she started, and she eventually founded the Ursuline

religious order named after St. Ursuline religious order named after

St. Ursuline, which was the first teaching order of women in the Catholic Church.

St. Angela is the patron saint of the sick, disabled, and those grieving the loss of parents.
