Today is Wednesday, May 31st, 2023.

Today is also the feast day of the visitation.

Today is the day that we remember Mary leaving in haste to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who is expecting

St. John the Baptist. And we remember those beautiful words when Elizabeth ran out to greet Mary

and this little child in her womb, St. John the Baptist, leapt for joy. This beautiful memory.

Now, let's just think back a little bit on the other feasts that we have celebrated. On March 25th,

we celebrated the Annunciation. So that is the moment that Mary said yes and conceived Jesus.

And so here we are a little over a month later, and Mary is there greeting Elizabeth.

So if you have ever had a mom that was expecting a baby, you can probably guess that Mary was just a tiny bit pregnant,

but probably feeling kind of crummy. So I think about that, that she made this long journey

to see her cousin Elizabeth when she probably wasn't feeling very well. And she submitted

there to serve Elizabeth and her family.

Will Elizabeth prepare to greet a baby?

Elizabeth was very old, crazy old to be having a baby.

And Mary was there helping her get all the bedding in order, the clothes, the house pulled together, taking care of her, taking care of Zachariah,

who at this point, we know he had lost his voice, he couldn't speak because he doubted that his

wife could have a baby. So she was there doing all of these chores when she herself was facing

some pretty great unknowns and not probably feeling very physically well.
