0:00.0	You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for March 23, 2003. This week we are talking about the parts of the mass. We have spoken about the profession of faith, the petitions. And today we're going to start to talk about the presentation
0:39.5	of gifts. But before we get there, if you will join me in praying the surrender prayer,
0:45.7	in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen. Take Lord and receive all my
0:51.8	liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will.
0:57.2	All I have and call my own. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. Everything is
1:05.4	yours. Do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me. Amen.
1:13.2	So yesterday I explained that the prayers of the faithful or petitions are the last little
1:20.0	piece of the Eucharist, the liturgy of the word. And then through the presentation of gifts,
1:25.7	we are moving into the second part of the Mass, the
1:28.5	liturgy of the Eucharist. So there's a lot going on with the presentation of gifts. The name of this
1:35.3	little part can be deceptive. We might think that the only thing happening is the family that
1:41.7	has been selected to carry the bread and wine from the back of the church to the
1:46.7	front. But there's actually three things happening in this moment. So the first is actually
1:52.7	the bringing forward of the bread and wine. The second, which we're also going to talk about
1:57.6	today, is the collection. And the third thing, which is happening also, is
2:03.6	the preparation of the altar, which is accomplished by the priest, deacon, and servers. So we'll
2:10.4	talk about that tomorrow. But all three of these elements are part of the presentation of gifts.
2:17.0	So let's talk about this a little bit. So remember
2:20.7	that in all that has come before this, we better understand what is happening now. So when we read
2:27.2	through the readings, when we listen to the priest deliver a homily, when we stood and professed our
2:33.2	faith and asked God with petitions to help us,
2:37.1	we know and we're professing with our voice what we believe. Now the moment has come for us to put that
