Summary

Our Patron of the BE A SAINT KIDS CLUB this month, St. Josephine Bakhita, is an incredible example of forgiveness. And yet, it's hard to fully understand what forgiveness is and how we practice forgiveness. So, this week join us as we discuss what forgiveness is NOT, what Jesus taught about forgiveness, the steps to offering forgiveness, why we also have a reason to forgive and how God forgives.

This week the Catholic Sprouts Podcast is sponsored by the Augustine Institute and their new WORD OF LIFE SERIES, curriculum designed to not only teach the faith, but also enable children to become part of the New Evangelization. To find out more, head here: https://www.wordoflifeseries.org/

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

0:39.3

Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the

0:48.1

side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. Good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds conceal me. Do not permit me to be

0:59.8

parted from you. From the evil foe protect me at the hour of my death, call me, and bid me come to you to

1:09.0

praise you with all your saints forever and ever, amen.

1:14.4

So we have been talking about forgiveness.

1:17.5

How forgiveness is simply not being, it's not being heard anymore.

1:21.8

It's not a requirement to restore friendship.

1:25.1

And it's also not a feeling.

1:26.5

It's a choice.

1:28.1

We reviewed the parable of the talents yesterday to see the difference between justice and forgiveness.

1:36.5

In justice, we know what someone has taken from us and we demand full repayment.

1:48.4

Forgiveness, we also acknowledge what has been taken from us and we demand full repayment. Forgiveness, we also acknowledge what has been taken from us,

1:55.4

but we make a decision to release that person from what they owe us. So along these lines, we're going to talk about the three steps to offering forgiveness, remembering all along that this is a choice, it is not a

2:03.3

feeling, that we can still feel hurt. We can still feel yucky about it, but we're making a choice

2:10.1

to do what God has commanded us to do. And through that, we will be set free. Maybe we won't

2:16.8

feel those feelings immediately, but freedom will

2:20.2

fill our lives. And to do this, I'm actually going to talk to you about an area where I've had to work on

2:26.5

forgiveness. It was something actually that happened to me when I was young, when I was in kindergarten,

2:31.5

but it's something that I held on to and probably made into a much

2:34.7

bigger hurt than it would have been otherwise if I just let go of it sooner.
