Hey there, Spouts. Today is Monday, January 23rd, 2003. This week on the Catholic Spouts, we are taking a note from our patron of the month, St. Andre Beset, and learning about the

virtue of hospitality. But before we get there,

let's work on memorizing Deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 4 through 9. In the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Here, O Israel, the Lord is your God. The Lord is one, and you shall love the Lord your God

with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart, and you shall

repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your

house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. Amen. Now, like I said,

we are talking about hospitality this week. Now, hospitality, we think about this in lots of

different ways. We can think of it as just simply

welcoming someone, having them over for dinner, being kind to them, seeing another person's

needs, and responding. And all of those are pieces of this virtue that we are commanded

to practice. And our patron of the month, St. Andre Beset, is a

wonderful example of this. St. Andre Beset was an ordinary man, as we've talked about. He was a monk,

and he spent most of his time as a monk doing one job. And that job was opening the door. He lived in a monastery,

and many people would come and visit for various reasons, but oftentimes people would come

seeking prayers. And the first person they encountered was the person that welcomed them at the door, St.

André Bissette.

And it was with him that they would pray for these prayers that they needed, whether they

were sick, someone they knew was sick, or needed prayers for some other reason.
