Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022. Today is also the feast day of a wonderful saint, St. Cecilia of Rome. St. Cecilia lived during the 200s and died a martyr for the faith. We remember her as the patron saint of music. Now, St. Cecilia was born to noble and wealthy parents, although she

dedicated herself to worshiping Jesus Christ, even though at the time it was illegal to be a Christian in

Rome. Her parents, however, arranged a marriage for her to another nobleman in Rome who was pagan.

His name was Valerian. On their wedding night, Cecilia warned Valerian that there were angels

guarding her and for him not to harm her.

She promised, though, that if he got baptized, he would be able to see the angels.

He agreed he was baptized the next day, and he was able to see these angels miraculously

charity for other Christians who were being martyred every day in the Roman games. Eventually,

these two brothers were caught and they themselves died as martyrs. Soon it was revealed that Cecilia was a Christian, and the authorities came to her

house to arrest her. However, as the authorities came and crowds followed them, Cecilia spoke so beautifully of Jesus Christ and of the

faith that many people were converted. Legend tells us that eventually the Pope at the time

showed up and instead of being arrested, he was asked to baptize over 400 people. Soon, however, Cecilia was sentenced to death,

2:21.9

but many of the ways that the Roman officials tried to execute her failed. Most famously, an

executioner came in to behead her, but miraculously, he was only able to wound her neck and not kill her.

Throughout at all, Cecilia did not complain, but she sang.

Eventually, she did die from her wounds and was venerated as a saint almost immediately after her death.

Now, if we are still in November, we are going to continue to talk about as a saint almost immediately after her death.
