You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Wednesday, November 2, 2020. Today is also All Souls Day,

0:37.4

the day where we remember all of our dead, in particular, we remember the souls in purgatory. And so let's pray together the prayer

0:40.7

for the dead that St. Martin DePorus is challenging us to pray and memorize this month. And while we pray,

0:47.7

call to mind all of the people in your life that you have loved, that have died, and that need prayers. In the name of the Father and of the Son

0:56.5

and of the Holy Spirit, amen. In your hands, Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.

1:04.0

In this life, you embrace them with your tender love. Deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest. The old order has passed away,

1:15.8

welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain. But fullness of

1:23.2

peace and joy with your son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen. So this week on the

Catholic Spouts podcast, we are talking about what happens after death. We've talked about what

1:40.7

we are going to talk about purgatory. Now, many Christians believe that there are

1:47.0

only two options when we die, either heaven or hell. But Catholics believe in a third place,

1:55.8

purgatory. And we believe in this place because we know how good our God is. We know that if we loved Jesus,

2:07.1

but imperfectly, if we gave him most of our heart, but not all of it, if we really tried to avoid

2:15.9

temptation, but we still fell into temptation, that Jesus still desires for us to be in heaven.

2:23.5

And he is going to help purify us and get us there, even if it takes some time and effort after death.

2:33.4

So as we spoke about on Monday at the moment of our death,

2:36.9

we will be judged and we will be sent to heaven if we are perfectly purified and ready to be in

2:42.8

the presence of God, sent to hell if we have totally broken our relationship with God,

2:49.5

and sent to purgatory if we need more purification.

2:53.9

So we have no idea where any souls have ever been sent after death. But when someone whom I love
