Today is Monday, August 22nd, 2022.

Today is also the feast day of the queenship of Mary.

We celebrated a couple of days ago the assumption of Mary into heaven, and this is the end of the eight days that we have spent celebrating her and remembering that she is not only our

mother willing to help us. She has also been made by God, the queen of heaven and earth.

Now this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are going to be talking about holiness.

Now with the launch of the Be a Saint Kids Club, we're going to be talking about saints a lot this year and not just about their stories, but about holiness and how one becomes a saint through a holy life. But as the church tells us, and as they really

strove to tell us when they met for the Great Council of Vatican II, not just a couple of

people are called to be holy. Everyone is called to be holy. The church calls this the universal call to holiness.

So no matter how old you are, what language you speak, what you did in your past, what your

family looks like, no matter what, you are called to be holy.

So we need to understand a couple of things before we jump into this. First of all, what does it

even mean to be holy? And why is the church so adamant or why is it so important to the church that we all become holy?

So first of all, what is holiness?

Now, we might think that holiness is kind of something that we'll never obtain, right?

It's maybe something like someone with their hands folded all the time and their head bowed and

they never, ever, ever do anything wrong. And we think, well, I can never do that. And of course,

holiness might look like that for some people. But the general idea of what holiness is,

is holiness is what happens in a normal Christian life.

When we do three things, when we regularly as often as possible, practice virtue.

When we have a relationship with Jesus Christ that we foster through prayer. And number three, when we allow grace,
