Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Friday, August 19th, 2020. Today is also the feast day of St. John Eudes, who lived in the 1600s and was a French priest.

Now, St. John Yudes is an important character when we look at one other really strong contribution that saints have made to our church, and this is that they

have spoken truth, and they oftentimes have addressed untruths or even heresies that have developed within the church.

So St. John Yutes was a priest. He founded orders. He did many good works. But he also spoke out

against the Jansian heresy. Now, this heresy or this lie about God told people that God was more concerned

with justice than with mercy, that he really wanted to punish us and that we were bad, that

humanity was bad and evil, and we needed to almost just through physical pain get the humanity out of us.

Now, this heresy was much more complicated than this, but St. John Hughes was devoted to the

Sacred Heart of Jesus, and he knew he spoke the truth that the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

where Jesus's heart

burns and suffers for all of us, speaks the truth that God's love and mercy is the strongest

desire that he feels for us, that he desires to be merciful. He desires to be our father, good and loving.

And yes, sometimes we have to go through painful things sometimes to eradicate the effects of

sin in our lives. But above all else, God desires love and mercy for us. So he spoke out with these truths. He spoke out

against lies and heresy. And through his example, the church really did get rid of that heresy.

There were others to follow and there's others we're dealing with today. But this is the mark of a saint

that they are

heroically virtuous. They speak the truth even when it is dangerous or unpopular. And through their

personal relationship with Jesus, they are able to know in an intimate way who God is and tell us

better so that we might come to know God as well.
