a so-called crypto king is accused of using his new New York City townhome as a tortured chamber

trying to extract a Bitcoin password out of a colleague. John Waltz was arrested Friday and

arraigned on kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, assault, and other charges. Law enforcement

sources say he and a business partner spent weeks torturing a third business partner from

Italy. The pair allegedly took the victim's passport and electronic devices

and demanded his Bitcoin password. When the Italian refused to comply, police say he was bound by his

wrists, pistol whipped, and had a chainsaw used on his leg, was urinated on, and allegedly dangled off a

set of stairs in the building. Police say after 17 days the victim was able to escape. After

Waltz was arrested, police say they found a treasure trove of evidence in his $30,000 a month rental,

including Polaroid pictures of the victim being tortured.

Authorities say Waltz is a big-name cryptocurrency trader from Kentucky with an estimated worth around $100 million.
