David Frum. Today, David is a senior writer at The Atlantic, author of many books, and one of the wisest

people in America. He was also born in Canada. And Canada's a bit

more in the news than any of us would like at this moment. And for all the wrong reasons,

we'll get to that. First, David, thanks so much for joining us. Thank you.

Let's begin, though, with the Trump-Puton phone call that happened yesterday last night.

This was the much-Ballyhooed attempt by Trump to broker a ceasefire.

Give us your impressions of what was achieved.

Well, some people are saying of this meeting or this conversation that Trump was played,

that Trump was deceived, that he was somehow made a fool of.

It reminded me of something my late father used to say when we traveled in Europe in the days of handwritten cafe checks.

He was always, he'd grown up in the Depression in a poor family.

He always carefully scrutinized every bill he got.

And he would read the bills.

And he used to say, if they were just bad at math, you'd expect half the mistakes to be in my favor.

So I don't know, maybe Trump gets played.

But if Putin is always able to take advantage of him every single time,

and the whole world is saying, you got played, you got played, you got played,

and Trump agrees to be played one more time, maybe he's not being played.

Maybe, again, half the mistakes would be in our favor if he were being played.

He's not being played.

He's maybe a partner in this conspiracy.
