We have not discussed crisis communications and crisis public relations on the podcast before in about 100 episodes. So, Dave, thank you for being the first.

So there are so many elements to crisis PR, but before we get into that,

I would love for you to talk about your journey

and how you got into public relations and communications.

Generally a backwards way I would call it. I was a Navy officer.

So I was commissioned as a surface warfare officer on combat ships a top side as they call it and then an engineering roles and on my first ship which was a guy of missile frigate as a junior officer you get these side collateral duty jobs,

part time gigs if you will,

in addition to your regular duties.

And mine was the public affairs officer.

And so that got me involved in promoting the ship's activities to not only other Navy

installations but also the general public particularly when we went to

ports of call we'd set up tour systems for community relations.

We were the ones, I was the one coordinated media interviews as we would go into certain

ports of call and activities as I said and also liaisoning with full-time public affairs officers in the Navy active duty people who did that as their full-time profession

when matters required it realized I loved it after shadowing and networking with a bunch of active duty Navy
