I'm Alex Capstick and for this week's assignment on the BBC World Service

I'm crossing South Africa in search of a level playing field.

Outside Cape Town is Kailicha, one of the biggest and poorest townships in the country.

Its population of nearly 400,000 is almost exclusively black African.

Life here is tough with little on offer, especially

for young people, except perhaps for this. I want to see you play with a straight bed,

from pig left yard, just play with a straight bed on the crown.

Well this is one of the few cricket facilities in the township of Kailicha

just beyond the wire fence young children are looking on at the ground which is

surrounded by typical township housing much of, bits of metal lashed together. Every

Friday around 10 boys from local schools come here to get some expert coaching.

Amongst them a 16-year-old who they think has got great potential. His name is

O'Wonke togway. He's a fast bowler and he's just about to step up and bowl in

front of me for the first time.

And up he steps he fires it down.

That was fast.

And that is why people here think he has such a bright future in the game.

This is very important for me being a

cricket player. One of the best creditors in Kailichar it means a lot to me. Yeah

I feel myself getting better. Also, bowling too fast.

When you're bowling, when you're running up,

and you're about to deliver the ball to the bats.
