Summary

Order in a man’s life is a tricky subject, and something many men have a tumultuous relationship with. The title of this episode alone will probably raise a few eyebrows, but I wanted to take an honest look at the meaning of order, because it’s through order that we can create coherence, freedom, and direction. So let’s look at why order is important for a man, and how to create generative—instead of disruptive—order in your relationship.   Did you enjoy the podcast? All right, men, welcome to the man talk show. I'm Connor Beaton, and today we're going to be talking about creating order in your relationship.

0:20.3

Now, order is one of those things that are, is absolutely imperative for a man.

0:25.6

It is something that we crave, we desire, but we also have a very tumultuous relationship

0:30.8

with it because for some of us, the order that was imposed on us growing up, maybe by

0:37.4

our fathers, by the lack of them, not being

0:40.4

around, or by the hyper-punishment-oriented version that order was installed into our lives,

0:48.0

can create a tumultuous relationship at best. So some men really struggle to create and maintain a sense of order,

0:58.2

morning routines. And this lack of order and structure can plague a man, can cause chaos in his life.

1:13.6

Because we as men, oftentimes, not always, but for most men, find a deep sense of purpose

1:20.7

and meaning in developing that order.

1:23.5

And that order actually serves a very specific function, which is to bring us a certain

1:29.3

level of freedom and coherence. And coherence is a very important experience for a man,

1:36.3

because coherence is about consistency. Coherence is about unifying ourselves, our intentions, our internal experiences with the direction

1:50.5

that we want to move. So if a man has order, then he feels a sense of coherence and connection,

1:57.8

not only to consistency, not only to a sense of organization, but to a sense that he is able to

2:06.4

trust himself. So order is absolutely required. Now in a relationship, creating order can be

2:14.3

quite challenging on a number of levels, but one of them is that we don't know how

2:20.0

it to necessarily deal with errors that might arise, with problems that might arise,

2:25.7

with perceived failures.

2:27.9

So the first step in being able to create order in your relationship is to optimize your

communication and your interactions for error
