My number one goal for this interview to get in any kind of a put down

the great Craig Mason is for me not to get in any kind

of a put-down contest with him because life experience has told me that I can't beat him.

You know sometimes there's somebody you come up against, for whatever reason, you might be a pretty good gun,

but this one guy can always shoot you down, this one woman.

I cannot thwart Mason. He knows where all the pressure points are and pushes them really

well. So I'm just thinking about there's so much to talk to him about and this guy's one of the most successful writers and also a producer in the business.

He's written movie like Hangover 2, Hangover 3, identity thief, many more.

He's also somebody who has become a real voice for screenwriters,

both to the world on his podcast, the one that deals with John August, another great

screenwriter, his podcast script notes, but also within the industry, behind the scenes,

he's somebody that screenwriters go to for

sage counsel and you know to be insulted.

Yeah, I guess you know it's worth paying the price for the one in order to get the other. But

Mason has come to this place of success and stature honestly and with real struggle.

He said a few different absolute career low points before these

incredible high points and somehow has through a combination of his intellect and heart,

persevered, done great work,

and found himself in this really lofty perch. And I'm really eager to talk to him about all of that, about how he sees the place of the screenwriter,
