Trump supporters like to say I have Trump derangement syndrome, because I won't stop talking about how unprecedented and abnormal his presidency is, and I keep comparing his regime to other authoritarian regimes,

including fascists and Nazis.

But of course they want me to shut up about him.

As I've said before, the real TDS is their sanewashing of Trumpism and denial of what a

historical aberration he is.

This podcast is devoted to finding historical precedents

and drawing historical analogies that help bring perspective to current events.

I've become so focused on Trump and MAGA precisely because he is so unprecedented.

Ask professional historians.

They try and try to find historical precedents, but can't.

We've seen presidential historians like John Meacham change their minds about Trump,

going from calling him just another American demagogue to recognizing that he is, quote, a genuine aberration

in our history, end quote, a U.S. president with a, quote, contempt for constitutional democracy,

end quote. Why are historians coming to recognize how very different he is?

Because he keeps doing things no president would have ever before countenanced.
