Summary
Peter Ballerstedt earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Georgia and his doctorate at the University of Kentucky. He was the forage extension specialist at Oregon State University from 1986 to 1992. He currently works in the forage seed industry.
Peter’s personal experience has led him to re-examine human diet and health. What he has learned doesn’t agree with the advice given for the past several decades. This new understanding combined with his forage background has given him an increased passion for the key to true social, economic and ecological sustainability – ruminant animal production systems – the source of butter, red meat, and cheese!
Peter has spoken at many different events in the US and internationally. Many of his presentations are available on YouTube (http://bit.ly/2JJDJpE). He blogs at “Grass Based Health” (http://bit.ly/2XaRdxv) and Facebook (http://bit.ly/2wsNBes), and posts to twitter and Instagram @GrassBased. Peter and Nancy live in western Oregon with their two dogs Conor and Noni.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Fundamental Health Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Paul Saladino. This podcast |
| 0:11.1 | is the result of my relentless search to understand and correct the roots of chronic disease |
| 0:15.4 | and illness. In this podcast, I will share with you everything I have learned about how |
| 0:19.2 | to live the most healthy and radical life possible. Thanks for joining me on this journey. |
| 0:27.0 | What's going on you guys? You should know that this week is a big one for me. I finished |
| 0:33.0 | residency. I'm done. I'm done with residency and I'm on my way to San Diego as you are listening |
| 0:40.7 | to this podcast. If you're listening to it, the week of June, I guess the 16th that is anyway, |
| 0:49.0 | is a big week for me. And also this week, the podcast that I did with the minimalists and rich |
| 0:55.2 | role and my good friend Tommy Wood got released. If you guys listened to last week's episode of |
| 1:01.3 | the podcast, you heard Tommy and me wrapping about all sorts of cool things. That dude is a smart |
| 1:09.7 | cookie. One of the things we talked about was our podcast with the minimalists and rich role. |
| 1:15.6 | And if you guys have not checked out that podcast with rich role and the minimalists and me and |
| 1:20.6 | Tommy, you should listen to that too. One of the things that came up repeatedly on that podcast |
| 1:25.8 | and I'll just say this. I mean, I told this to rich directly during the podcast was that his |
| 1:31.1 | conception of the environmental impact of rumenant animals on greenhouse gases, emissions, |
| 1:39.7 | many things was frankly incorrect by all of my understanding through talking to numerous |
| 1:46.1 | scientists about environmental issues regarding the consumption and raising of rumenant livestock. |
| 1:53.4 | I think the environmental issues around carnivore diets around eating meat in general are often |
| 1:59.4 | talked about and rarely talked about with as much clarity as this conversation or as much clarity as |
| 2:07.9 | the gentleman on today's podcast Peter Ballerstedt is able to bring to the discussion. So I am so |
| 2:15.0 | grateful to have Peter on the podcast today with me. Before the conversation with Rich Roll, |
| 2:21.5 | I reviewed much of his material and he and I had a long private conversation in which |
