When is a piece of evidence, not a piece of evidence?

When is a scientific paper, not worth the paper it is written on?

When is an analysis of an event incapable of measuring the impact of that said event?

The answer to all of this, of course, is when all of the above are prepared by the government.

The government doesn't seem to have a clue about putting together any sort of scientific evidence

in which they can convince us or with which they can convince us of why they are doing certain things.

Never in the history of research or indeed academia has the information

used to define policy been so sparse, so misleading or so inconclusive. And it's not just me saying

this, it's the ordinary people of this country who have been polled by the Conservative Party

about whether they're happy with the information they are being provided with. Yesterday,

the Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford used the age-old potential death figure

in order to justify prohibition in his country.

I say his country loosely, because it's not really his country, it's actually our country,

where it will soon be illegal to sell alcohol in pubs.

According to his statistical information, 1,700 people could die if nothing is done.

Mark my words, the key word in that sentence is could.

That's right. Mark Drayford, the Welsh First Minister, says 1,700 people could die.

Well, it might rain a bit later on, you know.

You might get involved in a car crash.

You might slip and fall over like Joe Biden

and need to wear one of those boots
