After the Ebola outbreak of 2014, Beth Cameron was tapped to head in new White House office,

whose duties included planning for the next global health crisis.

But in 2018, then White House National Security Advisor John Bolton

shut the office down as part of a reorganization of the National Security Council.

Cameron had already left the government at that point.

But she argues that the axing of her old office was a critical inflection point

that slowed the U.S. government's response to the spread of COVID-19.
